The Devil Wears Prada 2

20 years ago, I read The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger. It wasn’t my gateway into Chick Lit. The books from the Red Dress Ink blueprint were.

But I do remember reading The Devil Wears Prada and I ate up all of it. I love the movie too. And when I heard there was going to be a sequel, I had to look into some things.

A quick brief history of The Devil Wears Prada:

  • Published April 15, 2003 by Doubleday

  • The author was a former assistant to Anna Wintour

  • The story follows an assistant to a prominent and influential magazine editor

  • The book spent 6 months on the NY Times bestseller list

  • A movie was adapted and released on June 30, 2006

  • It has a sequel

That last one might surprise some, but in 2013, a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada was published called Revenge Wears Prada. I believe I have it somewhere on one of my bookshelves, but I haven’t read it yet. I might have to change that.

I don’t know if we know yet what the sequel movie will be about, but it is possible to be adapted from the sequel book.

Interest in The Devil Wears Prada increased on Google around the day it was announced. Same with Revenge Wears Prada, but not compared to the original’s namesake.

Fourth Wing Book Three Cover

The cover for the 3rd book in the Empyrean series, Onyx Storm, has been released. I still need to finish reading book 2 in the series. But to be honest, I’m going to have to start from the beginning because I don’t really remember where I left off.

It is not my favorite series, far from it, but I like being aware of things when the book world meets pop culture. Also, if the adaptation does happen, I want to have the books read before watching the movie or TV show, whatever they decide to do.

Book of the Day

Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates

In a profound work that pivots from the biggest questions about American history and ideals to the most intimate concerns of a father for his son, Ta-Nehisi Coates offers a powerful new framework for understanding our nation’s history and current crisis. Americans have built an empire on the idea of “race,” a falsehood that damages us all but falls most heavily on the bodies of black women and men—bodies exploited through slavery and segregation, and, today, threatened, locked up, and murdered out of all proportion. What is it like to inhabit a black body and find a way to live within it? And how can we all honestly reckon with this fraught history and free ourselves from its burden?
