8 Thrillers You Should Read This Summer

Another attempt at getting you to read :)

As a mood reader, I change my mind on all types of books I want to read all the time. And right now I am in the mood to read thrillers, to read mysteries, to read horror. I am in the mood to be spooked.

I know some prefer romances during the summertime, but getting a thrill or possible scare works for me.

Here are 8 that I plan to read sometime this summer. And I hope you join me.

I plan to make YouTube videos out of the books I read as well. I’m currently editing a video on this week’s “Book Of The Week”. So stay tuned.

I’m also going to try to have ChatGPT give a one sentence summary of these books. Well some of them since ChatGPT doesn’t go past 2021 so we’ll see how close it gets.

  1. The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager - This is the book I’m currently reading right now. Summary: A suspenseful psychological thriller following a woman returning to the summer camp of her childhood, haunted by a past mystery that resurfaces with dangerous consequences.

  2. Pet Sematary by Stephen King - Are we close enough for me to admit that I have yet to read any of Stephen King’s fiction? I hope so cause I just did. Summary: A gripping horror novel about a family's encounter with a mysterious burial ground that unleashes dark and terrifying forces.

  3. The Final Girl Support Group by Gray Hendrix - Summary: A gripping thriller that delves into the lives of six women who survived horrific slasher attacks, as they navigate a support group and confront a new threat that challenges their fragile stability.

  4. The Weight of Blood by Tiffany D. Jackson - Summary: A gripping and atmospheric mystery that follows a young girl's search for the truth about her mother's disappearance in a small, secretive town.

  5. Zero Days by Ruth Ware - Summary: Adrenaline-fueled thriller that combines Mr. and Mrs. Smith with The Fugitive about a woman in a race against time to clear her name and find her husband's murderer.

  6. The Only One Left by Riley Sager - Summary: A Gothic chiller about a young caregiver assigned to work for a woman accused of a Lizzie Borden-like massacre decades earlier.

  7. When No One Is Watching by Alyssa Cole - Summary: A gripping psychological thriller that explores the sinister secrets lurking behind the seemingly idyllic gentrification of a Brooklyn neighborhood.

  8. The Other Black Girl by Zakiya Dalila Harris - Summary: A thought-provoking and suspenseful novel that delves into the world of publishing through the eyes of a young Black woman who encounters unexpected challenges and unsettling experiences when another Black woman joins her predominantly white workplace.

Book Of The Week:

Everyone in Fairview knows the story.

Pretty and popular high school senior Andie Bell was murdered by her boyfriend, Sal Singh, who then killed himself. It was all anyone could talk about. And five years later, Pip sees how the tragedy still haunts her town.

But she can't shake the feeling that there was more to what happened that day. She knew Sal when she was a child, and he was always so kind to her. How could he possibly have been a killer?

Now a senior herself, Pip decides to reexamine the closed case for her final project, at first just to cast doubt on the original investigation. But soon she discovers a trail of dark secrets that might actually prove Sal innocent . . . and the line between past and present begins to blur. Someone in Fairview doesn't want Pip digging around for answers, and now her own life might be in danger.
